The Healing Wisdom of the Ancient Polynesians

Larry Logsdon

“Nature itself is the best physician.”
– Hippocrates

Have you ever thought about the system of medicine that now exists throughout most of the world?   It has become totally compartmentalized.  It’s based on a paradigm which believes that the different parts of  our body exist distinct from each other and are totally unrelated.  Thus, different parts of the body require a specialist in that area.

I remember assisting my 90 year old mother to her rounds of different doctors.  First there was the  visit to her internist.  After a rather cursory review of her particular complains and diagnosed issues and after ordering her basic blood work, she would then get the referrals that took her to the next round of appointments.   Her day were fully occupied sitting in the waiting room of her cardiologist, then off to the ophthalmologist.  Next appointment sent her to the urologist.  She then saw her podiatrist.  Next on her appointment list was the gynecologist.  How about the vascular specialist that advised her about her lymphoma after the appointment with the lymphologist to help with her lymphedema was a waste of time.

In the  world of specialists there is rarely any communication between each speciality.  It’s as though each area of medicine is a fiefdom all their own which is closely guarded and  protected.  Rarely did any one of her doctors have enough time to get mother’s full history of my mothers health records, medications, present complaints, etc. Rarely did one doctor confer with another. As she rotated through the merry-go-round of appointments, she was ultimately left confused, frustrated and sporting another long list of ongoing tests and recommended medications without any  cross-referencing of her other previously  prescribed medications.

There was always scheduling more appointments for further investigation or follow-up. My mother’s life revolved around all these appointments. It exhausted her as well a made her depressed.

For many people, their merry-go-round of visits send them to the second, third of fourth opinion in search of help. So often people are left feeling confused, helpless and powerless without any real resolution of their health issues.

When all these doctor visits fail to find a real solution, the final answer is to make the proclamation that the complaint is really a psychosomatic issue with a referral to a psychologist or psychiatrist. Rather than admit they don’t have the required knowledge nor  necessary expertise, they put the onus on the patient.

This is the hamster wheel that so many people find themselves endless running in.   It’s not just the hours that are spent in waiting rooms, but the inconvenience of scheduling times, juggling baby sitters or carers not to mention the cost of medical services.

Just how effective is the US medical system? According to a 2021 health care systems ranking among selected high-income countries, the US came last in the overall ranking of its health care system performance. The overall ranking was based on five performance categories, including access to care, care processes, administrative efficiency, equity, and health care outcomes.

Why has the US medical system failed so miserably to deliver superior health care? Is the patient the problem or is it this dominant medical paradigm that has prevailed as the standard of care?

The Traditional Way of Healing

Do you know how many specialities now exist in the Western or allopathic model of medicine?  As of the last count, there are over 135 specialties and subspecialties.  The number keeps increasing as the human body and its functions are continually divided into more separate pieces.

That’s crazy!

But It wasn’t always this way.

In ancient times and in more traditional cultures, doctors were formerly known as physicians (A term used to describe someone who is an expert in things relating to nature). This is because physicians then had a broader knowledge about life, philosophy, and science, and not just the curing of infirmities.

This wisdom understood that it is impossible to dissect a person and the body into sub-categories and just focus on that one particular area.  The profound knowledge of these ancient healing systems such as Traditional Chinese Medicine or the Indian Healing system called Ayurvedic Medicine had a sophisticated understanding how the body functioned as a whole.

For instance, if a health complaint was affecting the liver, the practitioner would investigate  a more wholistic overview of the person i.e., what other organ systems were impacted; what were their previous health complains;  what was the person’s diet; what were their stress levels and their emotional state; were there previous accidents; or  was there a family history of illness, etc. The recommendations would be made only after the healer thoroughly reviewed all aspects of the person. Only then would they provide specific natural treatments, natural herbal medicines, specific foods and specific lifestyle changes and even addressing the psychological  and spiritual state of the person.

Noni- A Universal Medicine

Noni has been recognized as a universal medicinal fruit by cultures around the world. For instance, in the ancient healing systems of Ayurvedic medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine, many parts of the Noni plant were highly valued as a helpful treatment for a myriad of maladies.

The Noni plant was especially recognized as an important healing plant in Polynesian medicine for over of 2000 years.  The Noni plant was valued for the medicinal benefits found in the fruit, stem and leaves.  In more modern times, fermented juice made from the Noni fruit has been studied and discovered to have profound benefits.

The Noni fruit is most commonly known from its association with the Polynesian cultures throughout all of the Polynesian Islands. It a source of profound nutrition which gives the intelligence fo the body the ability to heal.  Noni is used to help with many problems.  For example, it was recommended to strengthen the immune system, to increase vitality and physical strength, to enhance the healing power of the body to recover from illnesses, to increase fertility, to cleanse parasites, to lower blood pressure, to restore the digestive system and to improve skin conditions.

All these ancient healing traditions understood that the body functions as a whole.  These wise healers were able to understand that healing requires addressing the root cause imbalances and that only a holistic and natural approaches could truly resolve whatever malady a person was exhibiting.  Ancient healers were as much herbalists as they were psychiatrists and spiritual counsellors!

It is unthinkable for any of these healing systems to treat just one part of the body in isolation.  Wholeness was the underlying principle. Nature was the true Physician.

Most of all, these ancient healing traditions understood that it is crucial to provide the healing herbs and nutrition to would support the body to deal with a variety of demands of life.   These  people understood the wisdom of supporting the body naturally to maintain inner equilibrium for health and healing.  The ancients knew that Noni had power this power.  That was why Noni was such a prized and valued healing plant.

Healing Shingles the Natural Way with Noni

Shingles is a viral infection that causes a painful, blistering rash. It is caused by the varicella zoster virus, which is the same virus that causes chickenpox. The shingles rash develops into painful blisters that may also be itchy, usually on one side of the body, either on the face, chest, back, abdomen or pelvis. Each year, about one million people in the United States develop shingles. An estimated 1 in 3 Americans will get shingles at some point during their lifetime.

The medical approach believes that there is no cure for shingles, so doctors will prescribe antiviral medicine that may relieve the symptoms and help prevent complications. Over the counter pain meds or stronger prescription pain meds might be necessary to mange the painful blisters.  Treating shingles in this way is not without risks and side-effects.

This is the inspiring story about Mary and her healing from shingles the Noni way.

At 90 years of age, Mary is a living example of health and vitality.  She is dedicated to her water aquacising classes four for five times a week.  Mary is in constant motion and  has her choice of walking aids from a cane, walker or scooter  Nothing stops her from getting around and doing what she loves to do.

Mary shared one of her secrets to her healthy longevity.  It all began in 1995 when she was diagnosed with a rare form of shingles that is known as internal shingles.

Mary’s sought help from a neurologist who accurately diagnosed her condition and then prescribed a powerful medication to help manage the nerve pain. Mary faithfully took the medication for 6 months.  But her greatest concern was that she would become addicted to this medication, which is a known side-effect. So, she began to gradually wean off her prescribed medication and  to look for an effective natural solution.

At this time fate intervened for Mary.  A friend recommended that she take Noni juice and even gave Mary her first bottle.   She stopped her medication and began to taking her daily Noni juice.  In no time at all, Mary started feeling better.  The pain disappeared and has never returned.

Ever since that time, Mary has not missed a day taking her Noni juice. She swears that Noni juice is one of her secret elixirs for a long and healthy life.

Mary’s belief in Noni juice was needed to help her son, who at the age of 42, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. She immediately went into action.  “ I would buy a case for him and I told him you just have to take this.”  He took  an ounce of Noni juice every morning and evening in addition to doing chemotherapy.  He took the Noni juice all through his chemotherapy treatment and never missed a day of work.  He was diagnosed in 1998 and has been in remission ever since. Noni juice has literally been a life saver for Mary and her son.  She is thankful every day that Noni juice has come into her life. Mary is truly a living testimony to the healing and rejuvenating power of nature’s powerful medicine,  Noni juice.
